Jams

  • If you cannot pick up paper from the cassette or if the paper moves only slightly, there is a problem with the feed tires or a paper feed clutch.

  • If the paper jams before reaching the toner cartridge and is more than halfway out of the cassette, there is most likely an obstruction in the paper path.

  • If the paper jams under the cartridge or in the fuser unit, you could have a worn out fuser or an obstruction in the fuser unit.

Jams could also be caused by poor paper quality or by using the wrong type of paper. Paper heavier than 24 pounds cannot typically feed out of the cassette. If you’re using heavy paper, you should feed into the bypass tray or manual feed slot.

Error Codes

Some error codes are generated by paper jams and can be reset by clearing the jam and opening and closing the toner cover. If your code is not related to a jam, reset the power for 10 seconds and restart the printer. If this still doesn’t solve your problem, check your user’s manual for more details or call AOS at 800-553-7329.

Printed Image Trouble

If there are smudges, marks or lines on your printed page, first check your toner cartridge. If the cartridge is near its expected yield, it could cause problems. If your toner is good, then you most likely will have an issue with a worn out or dirty fuser unit.

If you are printing all white or all black pages, you could have a power supply problem or your cartridge is making poor contact with the printer. If you can’t hear the laser spinning just before the paper is printed, you laser could be defective.

Connectivity

If your printer is not printing, you could have an unplugged USB, parallel or network cable, an incorrect printer driver, or insufficient memory to print the document requested. In either case, your PC should signal the cause of the trouble. If you still need help, contact AOS at 800-553-7329.

Paper

Using paper that is not intended for copying can result in poor print.

  • Use paper that is recommended for copying.

  • Use paper that is 4 to 6 percent humidity by weight.

  • Do not use paper that is too thick or too thin.

  • Do not use plastic window envelopes.

  • Do not use letterhead with a wax-based logo.

Eliminate static electricity in the paper by fanning the paper before placing it in the paper cassette.
